Labyrinth Trials

Trials of Ascendancy are single-room trap puzzles hidden in campaign zones. Clear every trial for a Labyrinth tier and that Labyrinth unlocks at the Aspirants' Plaza, where you fight Izaro for your Ascendancy class and points.

Trial progress is shared by every character you own in that league, so each trial only ever needs to be run once per league, not once per character.

How trials and labyrinths work

Running a trial

  • • Each trial teaches exactly one class of trap: spikes, spinning blades, sawblades, furnaces, blade sentries or darts. That trap class is fixed per socket and never changes between labyrinth tiers.
  • • A trial starts at a door labelled Trial of Ascendancy and ends at a plaque. Clicking the plaque completes the trial and spawns a portal back to the entrance.
  • • Trials are always in the zones listed above, but the entrance is placed randomly within the zone, so you may have to hunt for it.
  • • Doors are opened by levers. Later trials add timed levers that flip back off unless you reach an untimed lever first, and some levers are deliberately placed to mislead you.
  • • Progress is shared by all your characters in a league, per league. Finish a trial once and every future character in that league inherits it.

Entering a labyrinth

  • • All labyrinths are entered from the Aspirants' Plaza, reached through the Statue of the Goddess in the Sarn Encampment. The Plaza has its own waypoint afterwards, so you can return from any act.
  • • Tiers must be cleared in order: Normal, then Cruel, then Merciless. Each higher tier also wants its own three trials and a character level.
  • • The labyrinth must be finished in one run, without dying.

Reading the plaque in game

The Trial Plaque at the Aspirants' Plaza shows six sockets: filled for trials you have done, dark for the ones you are missing. It never names the missing zones, which is the whole reason this page exists. Socket position maps to trap type, and that ordering is identical across every labyrinth tier, so counting sockets against the lists above tells you exactly which zone you still owe.

The Eternal (Uber) Labyrinth

Since 3.16 the Eternal Labyrinth no longer requires any trials. You need the Merciless Labyrinth completed, character level 68, and one Offering to the Goddess per entry.

Eternal trials still spawn in maps of tier 6 and above, but only as a source of Offerings. They are not a gate, and they are not diagrammed on this page.

Zone names, acts and level requirements on this page are read from Path of Exile's own game data, not transcribed from a wiki. That matters because several zone names collide across acts (The Lower Prison appears in both Act 1 and Act 6; Act 2's Crypt Level 1 is a different zone from Act 7's Crypt).
